Yarnification

playing with yarn in the middle of the night

Finally!

I finally finished the throw rug last night! I finished crocheting it ages ago, but last night I finally worked in the last of those 220 or so ends. (I will work in ends as I go along. I will work in ends as I go along. I will work in ends as I go along.)

The pattern is the bordered throw rug from the Leisure Arts Easy Rugs to Crochet pamphlet, except I got a little confused by the sequencing of color changes in the middle section and just did my own thing. (The pattern said two rows in color A, then two in B, then A, then C, then B, or some fool thing. I just did A, B, C, repeat up to the end.)

First, just the rug:

And the Lena inspecting the rug, a bit blurry because I was trying to take the picture before she left:

After that I started working on the second sock in the pair I’m making. I’ve also been working on a new pair of Marlo’s ribbed slippers. I have a few pairs of these already and love them, and I figured I’d see how they come out in cotton since I have some leftover Sugar ‘n’ Cream from making the potholders and whatnot. I used the cornflower blue, and I’ve got one done so far. I like how it turned out—it’s nice and comfy. There’s a touch more space between stitches than when I’ve made them with acrylic, but it’s no biggie because I always wear them over my socks anyway.

I also tried to get a start on the book thongs (which I learned about and fell in love with when I saw Donna’s post on book thongs) I’m planning to make Sara for her birthday. I plan to make two, a paperback-sized one and a bigger one. So I picked up supplies for that recently and tried to have at it last night, but unfortuately the hole in one kinds of the beads I got was just a touch too small for the cord I’m using. So that’ll have to wait, but I’ll be in Columbus tomorrow, so I can go to Michael’s or someplace and see what they’ve got. And I’ll just have to find a different use for the little beads I couldn’t use—that particular packet of beads was $1.50 at Walmart, so I’m not out much anyway.

That’s all for today, I think…

Love the rug! It *really* is easier if you do ends every few rows or so. I did that with the stripy seraphina shawl I made. I never would have completed it if I had left alllll those 40,000 ends till last lol. Kitty looks like she likes the new rug you made her ;)

What a nice rug! Although it’s best to weave ends as you go, I’m lazy and I do that at the very end.

I just finished the same rug last week. I didn’t mind working in the ends afterwards nearly as much as trying to to get tangled up in the nine strands at once! Had balls on my left, balls on my right, and some in the middle below my desk, and still felt tied up in knots. What colors did you use, I used the ones suggested, but next time want to try my own. I’ve also made the round one from the same booklet.
