Assorted nonsense

Bloglines appears to be thoroughly broken today. I can’t get there at all. Is it just me? (Nope, it’s not just me. I just tried again and got the Dread Plumber.)

The bag is dried and blocked and just needs a lining and the strap sewn on. With any luck I might get to it this weekend—most of this week I’m either working till midnight or else busy with other plans. I plan to get over the Fear of Lining Bags once and for all and do both bags at once.

I can’t wait to get it finished. It totally, perfectly matches my three favorite shirts. (I have three nearly identical rib-knit type t-shirts in maroon/wine red/burgundy-ish colors. I am constantly on the lookout at thrift stores for more clones of this shirt. If I had more I would wear them every single day.)

I ordered the Rigilene boning for the corset from corsetmaking.com yesterday and already got a shipping notification. They seem like really nice people. I had a question I needed answered before I could order, and someone got back to me really quickly and was very helpful and nice. If you ever need corset boning, go see them. Really.

And now for something completely different:

My Personal Dna Report

I did it!

Last night I sewed the rectangular rings for the strap onto the bag, then I took a deep breath and tossed it in the washer.

Observation: Eeew. The inside of the washer smelled like a wet sheep.

I sincerely hope I haven’t clogged anything with wooly debris on account of the pillowcase kept coming untied and I’d find the bag loose in the washer shedding bits everywhere. I couldn’t find any loose bits to pull out before I spun the water out, though.

Right now it’s drying. I cut some cardboard pieces, stuck them in grocery sacks, and put them inside, with more grocery sacks in between, so I think it’ll block nicely. It started out about 13½” wide and 14½” tall and is now about 10″ wide and 12½” tall. I’d hoped to get it just a touch smaller, but I ended up deciding that was a good size. I love the way the flap came out; the shells lost all their stitch definition but give it a nice texture.

Photos forthcoming after it finishes drying and I sew the strap on.

Oh, and line it. This makes two bags I need to line, so I think I’ll just do them both at once and be done with it.

I should be able to start on that corset in a couple of weeks as it turns out. I got afghan hooks for half-price at Hobby Lobby earlier this week, I’ve had the yarn for a couple of weeks, and now I just need to get the boning. I’m going to order it today, I think. I’m all excited about it.

No photos of the shawl yet, unfortunately. It’s huge and I just can’t seem to get a good photo of it.

Last night I finished stitching up the memo bag. I just need to sew on the D-rings (actually, they’re not D-rings; what I found were these little rectangular rings that looked perfect for it), felt it, and put the strap on it.

Wish me luck with the felting. It’s my first try and I have front-loading washer so I’m not sure how it’ll go.

I did end up giving up the chevron stitch on the flap. It looked so pretty in the photos, but I just couldn’t get a good gauge for it. I went up a hook size but the flap still came out a lot narrower than the rest of the purse. So I did shells instead. Not as cute, but it worked. I still had to go up a hook size. I don’t really know why. My dcs come out skinnier than hdcs.

I will probably now proceed to post 400 quiz results, but I’ll try to have some photos next time I make a real post.
